Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Tailored For You

Physical Therapy
While diseases affecting the organs and bones are quite well studied, conditions involving the muscles and nerves are still overlooked by many doctors unfamiliar with physical therapy & rehabilitation. Visiting the wrong office could leave you misdiagnosed and on a treatment plan that does little to help you. If you are experiencing inflammation and pain from conditions such as sciatica, myofascial tension, and migraines, call our Goose Creek team to find the cause and treat it as quickly as possible. At Back 2 Health Physical Medicine, our physical therapy and rehabilitation experts will check your entire body for potential causes rather than writing it off as a mystery.

Who Needs Rehabilitation And Physical Therapy?

The practice of physical therapy deals primarily with impairments to the musculature of the body, but it also includes hands-on treatments for nerve issues and even psychological issues. The careful manipulation of the spine and the muscles of the back can help you heal from a surprising range of injuries and illnesses. Most people first learn about rehabilitation after a car accident or other traumatic event. When a muscle is torn or a major bone is broken, patients usually need to undergo careful stretching and training as it heals for optimal results. However, trying to handle your own rehabilitation can be risky. Our team uses multiple diagnostic tools to monitor your injuries as you heal to ensure your treatment is helping and not hurting.

Both teen and adult athletes seek out our physical therapy services, especially if they are in a competitive sport like football or soccer. Immediate care can help a minor sprain keep from becoming a more serious problem, especially if we can find a weakness or misalignment that led to the sprain in the first place. When an injury leaves you out of the game, seeking physical therapy and rehabilitation can get you back out there as quickly as possible without putting yourself at risk for further damage.

Rehabilitation And Physical TherapyBack 2 Health Physical Medicine also offers physical therapy services to help patients struggling with:

  • Pain and other sensations due to amputations
  • Traumatic brain injuries that affect nerve and muscle response
  • Spinal cord injuries and degenerative diseases affecting the area
  • Stroke or seizures
  • Low back pain with a defined cause or without one
  • Neuropathy symptoms like numbness & tingling

What Treatments Are Used For Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation?

When a patient comes in with pain from an old injury or an unknown source, we have a number of tools we can use to reduce the irritation. These treatments are also useful in restoring flexibility and range of motion. Simple stretching is used for nearly every issues, but further care can include vibration exercise, spinal adjustments, other chiropractic care, heat and cold therapy to reach deep tissue, and massage to relieve tight muscles.  Sarapin injections can also be used for spot treatment of severe pain. Even if the problem lies within damaged nerve bundles, regular visits can limit the amount of chronic pain and fatigue you feel on a daily basis.

In our clinic, physical therapy and rehabilitation involve:

  • Ultrasound
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Traction
  • Disc decompression
  • Manual therapy
  • Exercise

We also teach our patients exercises they can do at home to aid in their improvement.

Rehab / Physical Therapy Pettibon System

Therapeutic Wobble Chair

Used to produce re-hydration of the spinal discs, increased strength of the discs, ligaments, and tendons; lubrication of spinal joints; nourishment of cartilage, prevention of adhesions and improvement of spinal joint integrity. This piece of equipment is essential for the daily metabolic interchange, nutrition intake and elimination of waste products in order to maintain healthy, well-hydrated spinal discs, ligaments, and tendons. Recommended usage is daily.

Repetitive Cervical Traction

Traction loading and unloading is necessary to reduce muscle splinting and assist with spinal motion restoration. This piece of equipment also creates the motion necessary to pump nourishing fluids into and waste products out of the avascular discs and other avascular tissues to promote repair and regeneration. These actions also aid in the correction of cervical, upper-dorsal and low back problems and lateral spinal angle deviations (which cause impedance on the lateral tracts of the spinal cord which connect the brain to the low back and legs). Recommended usage is twice daily during the corrective phase of care and then once a day to once a week thereafter, forever.

Weighting

This system produces an isometric force that sends necessary sensory input to the Central Nervous System and this is necessary for spine and posture correction. Frontal head weighting activates the body’s righting flexes causing the patient’s body to reposition for both forward and lateral correction. Recommended usage is twice daily for twenty minutes per session following use of either the Wobble Chair of the Repetitive Cervical Traction Unit, depending on the patient’s health problem. *Not all patients will need all parts of this system.

Posture Strap

The Cervical Lordosis Posture Strap helps patients with weak neck muscles from pulling their heads back and up when wearing head weights.

Pettibon Tendon, Ligament, Muscle Stimulator (PTLMS)

Removes muscle splinting and increases blood flow. Used during the acute phase of care for pain control and enhanced metabolic function for regeneration of the injured paravertebral soft tissue, the PTLMS works amazingly fast for significant results. Help flush the body of toxins and reduces inflammation.

Rocker Board

Balance and postural strengthening. Often times paired with head weights and a posture strap.

Thoracic Roll

A simple, effective balance and alignment tool for developing core stabilization, lower body balance and stamina, and body awareness

Will Physical Therapy Help Me?

Many patients start searching for alternatives to surgery and a lifelong dependence on medications once they learn about the risks and side effects of those options. Back 2 Health Physical Medicine specializes in non-invasive physical therapy & rehabilitation treatments that work on patients who can’t handle general anesthesia or the blood loss associated with major surgery. These treatments work well for anyone that prefers weekly visits over weeks in bed and the challenges of potential infection. You can always seek other treatments if our rehabilitation techniques aren’t sufficient to relieve your symptoms. However, we have surprised many patients with the efficacy of simple treatments when they are combined properly and supervised by a physician.
